What you're remembering might be what is known to many as Frogmore Stew
Here's how you make Frogmore Stew.
6 qts water
3/4 cup Old Bay Seasoning
2 lbs red potato
2 lbs smoked sausage (hot, links cut into 2 inch pieces)
12 corn husks (ears, cleaned and quartered)
4 lbs shrimp (fresh, unpeeled)
A reader from South Carolina says she's been using this recipe for over 20 years and that it can be adjusted to serve any number of people. To do that calculate 2 tablespoons of seasoning per quart of water. She recommends that if you can't find spicy smoked sausage, you can use other smoked sausage such as kielbasa and add crushed hot red peppers when you're cooking.
Bring water and Old Bay Seasoning to boil in a large stockpot.
Add potatoes and cook for 15 minutes. Add sausage and cook for 5 minutes more. Add corn and cook for another 5 minutes. Stir in the shrimp and cook until shrimp are pink, about 5 minutes. Drain and serve hot.
