Shrimp Sauce Recipe Ingredients

| • | chopped onion | ||||
| • | sugar | ||||
| • | dried leaf basil | ||||
| • | salt | ||||
| • | canned tomatoes in puree | ||||
| • | canned tomato paste | ||||
| • | water | ||||
| • | large shrimp | ||||
| • | dry sherry or white wine | ||||
| • | crushed red pepper (+/- to taste) |
Recipe Preparation
- Heat a light olive oil in a 3 to 4-quart saucepan over medium heat; add onion and sauté until onions turn yellow and soften, about 6 to 8 minutes.
- Stir in the sugar, basil, and salt, and then add the tomatoes with puree, tomato paste, and water. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Add the shrimp, sherry or wine, and crushed red pepper. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Simmer for about 1 minute longer, or until shrimp are cooked through.
