Restaurants

This page is about restaurants that either specialize in shrimp or prawns, or which are renowned for some special dish or occasion which features them.

In truth, this page is most likely to be more your page than it is mine because it will end up featuring many more recommendations from you, the reader, than it does from me.  After all, it's not up to me to decide which are the world's best restaurants no matter of how much I love shrimp.

• Royal Caribbean Cruise Line has a special place in my heart for its shrimp dishes mostly because it's such a nice atmosphere in which to enjoy my favorite food and -- and this was especially important to me -- when I ordered any dish featuring shrimp I was cheerfully accommodated when I asked for the number of shrimp to be doubled.
  
  They also publish a beautiful recipe book called Savor (pictured above) which features many of the shrimp delicacies which they offer in their ship's main dining room.
   
• Red Lobster is a well known US chain that has a great number of shrimp specialties. What's especially gratifying about Red Lobster is the assortment of shrimp dishes that are a permanent attraction on their menu.  The particular combo which I had in the photo featured scampi, and two varieties of grilled shrimp served on skewers or brochettes as many people like to call them.
   

• I had an unexpected delight on a recent trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil when we stopped for lunch at a very popular restaurant which was renowned for it's service of barbequed meats.  Before the meat service started, we visited their buffet and I felt like I'd discovered a goldmine!  By coincidence, I was carrying my camera in my pocket so I snapped this photo before filling my plate (and half emptying the serving tray!)
  In reality this shouldn't have been such a surprise, Brazil has a major shrimp producing industry ... but I didn't know it at the time.
   
• I would be very remiss if I didn't mention Inaltulafquen Inn in Lican Ray, Chile where I photographed the Shrimp Pil Pil which I feature as a recipe here.  The inn is run by my lovely wife, who is a most marvelous cook, and who introduced me to this delightful dish.  Shrimp is not a regular part of the menu, but if an advance request is made it can usually be accommodated.  This photo is shot on the terrace overlooking the lake in front of the inn.
