For less imaginative souls this site will be a mere collection of shrimp recipes with a few prawn dishes, cooking tips, and reviews thrown in for good measure.

If you're a bit more daring this site will momentarily transform you into a sorcerer (or sorceress) as you create masterpieces that tantalize and delight, actually learning some magic tricks that will make both the preparation and the presentation of your shrimp creations entertaining and fun.
 

YOU Can Be a Shrimp Wizard

I'm going to invite you to break out of your daily routine and enter into a little fantasy with me on this site as we both don virtual wizard's hats and produce some magic. But, first, you might want to know why I think this will be useful to you. [ Seem silly? ]

 

Your attitude counts

What you get from this site is a matter of attitude. In thinking how to illustrate this I remembered a time when my youngest daughter seemed to dawdle over eating a portion of fresh garden peas. I sat down beside her and got her to pretend that one of those peas was a "magic power crystal."  We agreed that you couldn't tell which one had the magic until after you ate it, because they all looked the same, so you had to eat them all to make sure you got "the magic crystal."

She played the game, and cleaned up her plate in no time, but the real magic of that was that even today, as a grown adult woman, she remembers the game and considers fresh garden peas as one of her favorite foods. One brief fantasy produced life-long results!

I believe this resulted not because she was innocent, but because she wanted to play the game. So it is with our shrimp magic: if you play the game with me you're going to learn something new and have an enjoyable interlude while we're doing it.

Our First Spell

So now we're going to take our first step into a fantasy world. Play along with me and pretend that I'm a magician and you've agreed to "help" me perform a magic trick.

Really imagine yourself in this role and you'll learn something about magic by really feeling what it's like, which is far different from simply reading the words ...

Well, now that you've got your wand on it's way, let me tell you a bit more about what you are going to discover here.

Not all of what you read below is evident to you here right now, and it's one of the reasons you need your Shrimp-Magic Wand.

Just as a magician won't reveal "how" he does his magic to his public, we reserve some of the features of this web site for insiders only, so if you choose to simply browse around a bit, you'll not have the benefit of some of the really good stuff.

The most enticing area is the one called Spells (as in Shrimp Spells). As we mentioned earlier, people with lesser imagination than us, will consider them to be merely recipes, and we will often use that term ourselves -- but between us Wizards -- there's a lot more to it which you'll discover on your own.

Sprinkled into each recipe, you'll find an essential part of every wizard's lore -- little morsels of patter which will not only inform you about shrimp as you go about preparing your next masterpiece, but which you can use to delight and amaze your guests when you serve up your creation.

Not only that, but I have other surprises for you sprinkled in betwixt the recipes (but not necessarily all -- so you may have to hunt for these like Easter Eggs). I'm not going to reveal here what these surprises are -- after all they are surprises.

The section on Props will deal with the essential utensils and useful accessories which shrimp wizards employ in their craft.

Legerdemain is a collection of useful tips and shortcuts which you can use to make your spells even more spellbinding. In this area we also cover the various different preparation techniques which are used for serving shrimps and prawns.

In Shrimp Lore you'll discover a collection of much about the cultivation and harvesting of shrimp that you probably never knew before. This isn't essential information for most of your wizardry, but keeping in mind that the more you know about a subject the more masterful you can be, we highly encourage you to become familiar with it.

Elixirs is an area where we consider, wines, spirits and beverages which are particularly suited to being matched with shrimp and prawn recipes.

Erudition is where we deal with cookbooks, recipe collections, courses, classes and assorted further knowledge.

Enchanted lairs is where we reveal restaurants or other eateries which are renowned or well recommended for their shrimp, or prawn specialties.

So, with this brief tour, you now have an idea of where we're heading and what to expect.
