Grilled Shrimp serving suggestion
"Shrimp
on the barbie" is a phrase that came from a series of
television ads by the Australian Tourism Commission from
1984 through to 1990 in which actor Paul Hogan said
"I'll slip an extra shrimp on the barbie for you".
At the time Hogan was not well known as an actor, but
the campaign was highly successful. Australia
jumped to the top of US vacation destination choices in
the years immediately following the campaign.
Grilled Shrimp Recipe Ingredients
• 1 large clove garlic
• 1 tablespoon (15 ml) coarse salt
• 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) cayenne pepper
• 1 teaspoon (5 ml) paprika
• 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil
• 2 teaspoons (10 ml) lemon juice
• 2 pounds (0.90 kg) large shrimp, peeled and de-veined
• 8 wedges lemon, for garnish
Recipe Preparation
- Preheat grill to a medium heat. Shrimp cooks fast no matter what method you use, but grilling them takes no time at all. Over cooking them will leave them tough and dry.
- In a small bowl, crush together the garlic and salt. Mix in the cayenne pepper and paprika, and then stir in olive oil and lemon juice to form a grilling paste.
- In a large bowl, toss shrimp with garlic paste until evenly coated. Lightly oil grill grate. Cook shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until opaque. Transfer to a serving dish, garnish with lemon wedges, and serve.
