Cucumber Raita Recipe

Use  Cucumber Raita to accompany a main dish like Tandoori Shrimp or whenever you want to add an authentic East Indian touch to your meal.

Preparation time: 10 Min.
Servings: main course dishes



• large cucumber, peeled, seeded and chopped finely
• natural yogurt
• mint, finely minced
• salt
• black pepper freshly ground



  1. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix until thoroughly blended.

Raita is a dish which has as many variations as you can make by changing the cucumber with other vegetables or fruit.  Some possibilities:

  • 1 cup fine chopped canned peaches, drained,
  • 1 cup canned pineapple, crushed and drained,
  • 1 large fresh mango, peeled, seeded and finely chopped,
  • 2 stalks of fresh celery, finely chopped,
  • 2 fresh bananas, chopped fine
